My name is:
Igor Sekimoto Silva
I’m a half Brazilian and half Japanese teacher based in Setagaya-ku,
Tokyo. I can speak Portuguese, English, and Japanese. I studied
international business at Temple University Japan. I’m also married to an
American lady, so my accent is mostly American.
I’ve been teaching English since I was 18 years old. I started learning
English in cram schools when I was around 10. My first job as an English
teacher was at the same cram school I studied when I was a kid.
I’ve taught English to all age groups. I teach at Japanese nursery,
elementary, and high schools. I also teach privately, in person or online. I
often go to private companies, and teach business English to employees.
I’ve been to several “English Summer Camps”, where young students have
intensive courses, play games, and learn presentation skills.
As an ESL teacher, I can relate to students because I was once in
their shoes. I know the areas students usually have trouble with, so I make
sure to focus on them more. I like making class materials relatable and fun,
so that students can find the language engaging. It sparks their interest and
motivation. I think it’s imperative that students are interested in the culture
associated with a language in order to learn it, because they need
stimulation outside of the classroom. I encourage my students to read,
listen, or watch English speaking media.
